Since 2015, the platform has invested in the production of Brazilian titles for the catalog

More and more Brazilian and original productions arrive in the Netflix catalog. In 2022, subscribers will be able to check out even more titles produced here. Audience favorite movies, series, reality shows and comic specials are available until the end of the year. Between new seasons and unreleased stories, the recordings are taking place in five Brazilian states, from the Amazon to Paraná.
The new Brazilian productions show the positioning of the platform in the development of the national audiovisual market. The first Brazilian production produced by Netflix was the series “3%”, which debuted in streaming in 2016. Since then, the platform has developed titles such as “Coisa Mais Linda”, “Modo Avião” and “Bom Dia, Verônica” .
“We want our creative and production partners to have the best experience working with us so that we can bring amazing stories to Brazilian audiences,” said Elisabetta Zenatti, Netflix Vice President of Content in Brazil.
“Although today’s scenario is very different from when we started, one thing does not change: our commitment to the domestic industry. Brazil is a fundamental part of our strategy,” he adds.
New detective series “DNA of Crime”
Among the novelties is the action series on the criminal investigation “DNA do Crime”, directed by the famous Pernambuco native Heitor Dhalia. The story follows the complex work of a group of federal police in an unprecedented investigation, which culminates in the beginning of a thread that unravels, like no other, the construction of crime in the country.
Leandro Hassum in the comedies “My brother-in-law is a vampire” and “BO”
And when it comes to comedy, Leandro Hassum it cannot be overlooked. Fans of the genre will appreciate the actor twice: in the series “BO” and in the movie “My brother-in-law is a vampire”.
The series is directed by Pedro Amorim and the screenplay is led by Carol Garcia. The plot of “BO” is set in a police station in Rio de Janeiro. In the story, the goofy Suzano (Hassum) becomes the deputy after being transferred from the countryside.
In the feature film, directed by Alê McHaddo and with a screenplay by Paulo Cursino, Fernandinho (Hassum), family man, former football player and current commentator of his podcast garage. In the plot, the protagonist is surprised by the uncomfortable visit of his brother-in-law Gregório (Rômulo Arantes Neto), a loose and bloodsucking relative who Fernandinho turns out to be literally a … vampire!
New Whindersson Nunes special
Also for a laugh, Netflix also confirmed the unreleased comedy special “Whindersson Nunes: This is not a cult”, recorded in the city of Porto, Portugal. The show is marked by the nostalgia and audacity of the comedian on stage.
Fantasy and afrofuturism in “Chacina da Candelária”
The recordings of the fictional miniseries have already begun, inspired by what has become known worldwide as the “Chacina da Candelária”. In four episodes, the production will mix realism, fantasy and afrofuturism as an aesthetic innovation strategy. The story tells the trajectory of four children in the 36 hours preceding the tragedy from the point of view of each of them.
Coming from broken families, these young people find in the streets of Rio de Janeiro, and in mutual company, a way to touch life and, who knows, fulfill their dreams and experience adventures – until their future is interrupted.
Additionally, each episode will feature renowned Brazilian entertainment holdings, including Antônio Pitanga and Péricles, who have already recorded their first scenes. In addition to them, Adriano Garib, Juliana Lohmann, Leandro Firmino, Maria Bopp, Stepan Nercessian and Xênia França, among others, will be part of the participation list.
Other Brazilian productions on Netflix
Finally, the platform continues to bet on the continuation of successful national projects. Netflix is already preparing the sequels to some Brazilian productions. The romantic film “Ricos de Amor” and the series Sintonia (fourth season) and De Volta aos 15 (second season), the Brazilian sitcom A Sogra Que Te Pariu (second season) and the reality show Casamento aos Cegas Brasil (third season) ) are in progress.
In addition to the announced productions, in 2022 Netflix is investing 5 million reais in programs to develop professionals in the audiovisual market, as part of the investment in the local industry. This is something that has been around since the company started producing content in Brazil.
As part of this strategy, Netflix launched the “Segundo Ato” initiative last Monday (5), aimed at black and native screenwriters working in the local audiovisual market.
