Journalist Silvio Lancellotti dies at 78 in San Paolo

or the journalist Silvio Lancellotti died this Tuesday 13, in Sao Paulo, at the age of 78. The commentator was admitted to the ICU of a hospital in the capital of São Paulo after suffering a cardiac arrest a week ago.

He currently works as a columnist for the Portal R7, by Record, in a space that mixed football and cooking. He has also worked as a sports commentator on ESPN, Bandeirantes, Globo and Rede Manchete.

Graduated in architecture, Lancellotti defined himself as a “journalist by passion”. The commentator participated in the coverage of eight editions of the World Cup and was a reference in the coverage of international football in Brazil. He was one of the leading names in Italian football broadcasts on the Band’s screen in the 1980s.

The journalist had been struggling with mobility since 2016, following a road accident. However, he continued his work and had the Pan American Record Games as his last major coverage.

A supporter of Corinthians and Juventus, from Italy, Lancellotti has also worked in other sections of journalism. In the 1960s he was one of the founders of Veja magazine. During his career, the journalist has also written several books, on gastronomy, football and even the presence of the Italian mafia in Brazil.
