Tiago Leifert and Daiana Garbin provided details on the treatment and lead an awareness campaign against the disease

A year after his daughter, Lua, the presenters and reporters were diagnosed with cancer Tiago Leifert And Daiana Garbin gave more details on the girl’s health status.
In an exclusive interview with the newspaper The globeLeifert and his wife said the tumor, called retinoblastoma, has been stable and calcified for at least three months.
When asked about the possibility of a cure for his daughter, the reporter was more content: “It could take a long time. Okay, let’s get it. I don’t want to underestimate our opponent, because he is very difficult and treacherous. You can’t relax, ”Leifert replied.
Diana reported how the girl is treated. “We continue with the exams at least every three weeks and we have had good news for three months.” Lua’s mother also says that her daughter’s tumor was considered large, but that the chemotherapy treatment has reduced it. “We live from exam to exam. It’s very delicate, we can’t relax, ”she says.
The couple’s daughter has already undergone intra-arterial radiotherapy, brachytherapy and chemotherapy, which is performed through a catheter placed through the groin, which goes to the artery that supplies the eyes, focusing treatment only on that region.
Although available through SUS, Leifert explains that not all babies can benefit from this treatment: “They must be at least six months old and weigh the right amount to access the catheter and not damage any of the baby’s arteries or blood vessels.”
The family now leads a national retinoblastoma awareness project.
“When we started the Moon treatment, we wondered how we didn’t know, because this information never crossed our paths. I have been a health journalist for so many years at Bem-Estar, why have I never written an article on retinoblastoma? ”Asks Daiana.
“This desire was born because in the case of the Moon we discovered it almost too late. (…) If a family comes to the hospital for what is publicly talked about, for our project, in a phase lower than that of the Moon, for me it is already worth it ”, says the journalist.
