Director Paul Greengrass (“Jason Bourne”) will write, direct and produce the film “Fairy Tale”, an adaptation of Stephen King’s latest book (“It”, “Carrie”, “The Shining”, etc.).
Released on September 6, “Fairy Tale” tells the story of Charlie Reade, an ordinary teenager who brings trauma from his past with him. One day, Charlie responds to a distress call from the backyard of one of the neighbors, Howard Bowditch, a lonely, grumpy man who scared neighborhood children.
The boy fell down the stairs and was seriously injured. Charlie then begins to help the neighbor with the housework and take care of his dog. However, when Howard dies, Charlie stumbles upon a tape that reveals an incredible secret: a portal to another world.
“Needless to say, I’m a Paul Greengrass fan and think he’s a wonderful choice for this film,” King said in a statement. The writer admires and trusts the director so much that he sold him the adaptation rights for the nominal sum of $ 1.
With this, King will participate in the project as a producer and his profit will go out of the budget, included in the cost of acquisition by a studio, and from the box office that it could yield in the future.
“‘Fairy Tale’ is a work of genius,” said Greengrass. “A classic adventure story and a disturbing contemporary allegory.”
The film does not yet have a filming schedule or release date set.
Paul Greengrass has been involved in a new adaptation of George Orwell’s literary classic “1984”, but it is possible that “Fairy Tale” will skip ahead.
The project will join the writer’s growing list of adaptations in development, including “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” directed by John Lee Hancock (“Hunger for Power”), “Salem’s Lot” directed by Gary Dauberman (“Annabelle 3: Homecoming “). “), and” Night Terror “, directed by Rob Savage (” Host “), among many others.
