Actor Regé-Jean Page (“Bridgerton”) will star in a series inspired by the classic western “Butch Cassidy” (Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, 1969), which will be produced by brothers Joe and Anthony Russo (directors of “Avengers: End of the game “). “).
The plot of “Butch Cassidy” is set in 1900 and follows two thugs, Butch Cassidy (played in 1969 by Paul Newman) and The Sundance Kid (Robert Redford), who are chased after trying to steal a train. And the solution they find is to flee to Bolivia.
Page will take on the role of Butch Cassidy, while the Sundance Kid will be played by Glen Powell (“Top Gun: Maverick”).
It will be the second time that Page plays an originally white character. The same happened in the “Bridgerton” series, where he gave birth to the Duke of Hastings. The difference in this case is that Butch Cassidy is not just a fictional character. He really existed and there are photographs that show his physiognomy of him, but he wasn’t even as handsome or blond as Paul Newman.
The attraction is in development for the Amazon Prime Video streaming platform, which has already ordered a full season.
The production represents the second partnership between Amazon and the Russo brothers, after they embarked together on “Citadel”, one of the most expensive series ever made.
The project also marks a reunion between Regé-Jean Page and the director duo, after working together on the Netflix film “The Hidden Agent” (2022).
The actor will soon be seen in the fantasy “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Rebels”, based on the famous role-playing game, which will be released in theaters in March 2023.
