How Crown Princess Victoria, Elizabeth II, Princess Eugenie and other royals celebrated Easter

On April 17, Easter was celebrated in many countries of the world, mainly in Europe and overseas. We have already told and shown how celebrities spent this day, and now we have collected a chronicle of the festive Sunday of royal families.

In Britain at Windsor Castle, contrary to tradition, not all representatives of the royal family gathered. And, above all, there was no Elizabeth II, who usually leads the procession. This time, the queen was unable to attend for health reasons, which was announced in advance. Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess Camilla, were also absent. The senior members of the royal family, who were greeted by the clergy at the entrance to St. George’s Chapel, were Prince William with Kate Middleton and children George and Charlotte. Behind them, in seniority, was the youngest son of the Queen, Prince Edward, who lives near Windsor, his wife, Countess Sophie of Wessex, and their children, Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn. Following the Queen’s grandchildren – the children of Princess Anne Zara Tindall with her husband Mike and Peter Phillips with their daughters Ayla and Savannah, and the daughter of Prince Andrew Princess Eugenie of York – went to the temple. Queen Elizabeth II, as the head of the Anglican Church, participated in the festive service via video link.

Also contrary to tradition, almost all members of the British royal family ignored Easter on their social media. Not a single holiday publication appeared in the official accounts of Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, and even Prince William and Kate Middleton. Only Princess Eugenie posted a new picture of her son August, who turned one in February, in the middle of a lawn with daffodils.

Unlike her colleague and close friend Elizabeth, the Danish Queen Margrethe II, who celebrated her birthday on the eve of Easter, appeared at the festive service in the cathedral in Aarhus, She was accompanied by her son Crown Prince Frederik and granddaughter Isabella.

In Sweden, the entire royal family took an Easter vacation to celebrate this holiday with their loved ones. True, on Sunday, Swedish television broadcast the speech of Crown Princess Victoria, who, according to tradition, read a passage from the Gospel, but this video was recorded in advance. And on holiday, she, along with her husband Daniel and children Estelle and Oscar, went to her house on the island of Eland.

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia chose skiing in Storlien. They own a cottage in this ski resort two kilometers from the Norwegian border. On Easter morning, the royal court released a photograph of Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia drinking coffee against a snow-covered hill in sunny Storlien. The photo got their dog named Brandi. Their son Carl Philip posted on social networks a photo with his wife Sofia on skis, and the caption:

Happy Easter from the beautiful mountains!

Other monarchs chose not to share the details of their celebration with the public, or, like the princely family of Monaco, limited themselves to a family photo.
