“What was behind the smile (of the photo) is something I still have a hard time talking about,” Jana began in her account, which she posted as a caption for a photo of her next to her mother.
“What I remember seeing this photo was a girl destroyed inside. Weeks ago, I was trapped on the floor as the man who claimed to love me strangled me and threatened to kill me. I was so full of shame that no one believed me and that the reason I was strangled or beaten. It was because I was bad! It was because I was wrong and I deserved it, “she said.
Jana, who does not identify her attacker, secretly married him when she was only 19. He was 17 years her senior.
The actress confessed that it wasn’t her only abusive relationship. “You don’t deserve abuse. You don’t deserve any form of abuse … Physical, sexual, mental, verbal, financial, emotionally abusive relationships, etc. This is all abuse,” he warns her, who still regretted spending so much time thinking he deserved it, what happened in their relationships.
