The daughters of the “exiled” ex-King of Spain Juan Carlos visited him after a long separation

Spanish King Juan Carlos’ daughters Infanta Elena and Cristina visited him in Abu Dhabi, where he lives after his self-imposed exile in August 2020. In honor of the Easter holiday, they brought their children with them so that they could talk with the august grandfather.

Recall that on August 3, 2020, King Juan Carlos, who had previously passed the throne to his son Philip, made a shocking announcement that he was leaving Spain forever. The financial affairs of the king attracted close attention of law enforcement agencies involved in investigating corruption cases. Two weeks later, the royal court published a message that the monarch now lives in the United Arab Emirates. And in March of this year, he wrote in a letter to his son King Philip of Spain that he would most likely never return to his homeland, despite the fact that the prosecutor’s office officially stopped the investigation. He promised occasionally to come to Spain.

All this time, his daughters Elena and Christina regularly visited him. Moreover, in early March last year, a scandal erupted in Spain after local media learned that both Infantes had been vaccinated against coronavirus in Abu Dhabi. Public outrage was caused by the fact that 55-year-old Christina and 57-year-old Elena were not included in the age group that was subject to participation in the state vaccination program of the Spanish government. At that time, only citizens over the age of 65 were vaccinated against the coronavirus. King Philip’s sisters explained that they “were forced” to get vaccinated because they needed permission from the UAE authorities to visit their father permanently. One of them lives in Madrid, the other in Geneva.

This time the infants were joined by their children: 22-year-old Juan, 21-year-old Pablo, 19-year-old Miguel, and 16-year-old Irena and 21-year-old Victoria.
