On Tuesday, Buckingham Palace announced that Kate Middleton had taken on a new patronage, the first since she received the title of Princess of Wales. The captain and physiotherapist Preeta Chandy, who will soon go on an expedition through Antarctica, has become the winner. Chandi is in the British Army and hopes to be the first woman to cross Antarctica solo. In 75 days, she plans to walk more than 1,000 miles while carrying 265 pounds of equipment on a sled.
She already set a record last winter by becoming the first woman of color to reach the South Pole unassisted, walking 700 miles in 40 days, according to The New York Times. For this she was awarded the Order of the British Empire.
My goal on this expedition has always been to inspire people to push their limits. I want to take people on this journey with me to help them believe that nothing is impossible,” said Chandi. “It is a privilege for me to have the Princess of Wales as my patroness.

Chandi aims to inspire future generations to believe in themselves and empower themselves:
The Princess has long advocated that outdoor activity can have a big impact on our health and increase confidence and resilience, the palace said in a statement on behalf of Princess Kate. “She is committed to promoting this among young people, also through her work with organizations such as the Scouts, of which she co-chairs. Pryta’s historic expedition is the culmination of such activity, and so the princess is delighted to have been invited to be patron.
