Farewell to Gal Costa: remember important moments in the singer’s career

This Wednesday, 9th, Brazil lost one of its biggest popular music stars, Gal Costa, aged 77 years. The singer allegedly starred at the Primavera Sound festival last weekend, but her participation was canceled due to her recovery from surgery.

In honor of his career, we have separated some of Gal Costa’s most memorable moments:

first solo album

In 1969 Gal released his first solo album, titled “Gal Costa”. Before this release, the singer participated in collective projects, such as Domingo, with Caetano Veloso, and Tropicalia or Panis et Circencis, which marked the Tropicália movement.

Gal joins other names

Six years after his first solo album, Gal Costa joins Gilberto Gil, Caetano and Bethânia for a show by the hippie band “Doces Bárbaros”, the name he also gave to the introductions.

In fact, the group, in addition to winning audiovisual productions on its history, was also a samba school conspiracy.

Launch and success of “Água Viva”

Three years later, in 1978, Gal released another solo album, which would later be his first gold album, “Água Viva”. This version would mark a new era in the singer’s career, who has now taken on a more mature and less hippie personality.

Hall of Fame

Anyway, in the early 2000s, Gal Costa was inducted into the Carnegie Hall of Fame in New York. The recognition came after the show “40 Anos de Bossa Nova”, which he made in honor of Tom Jobim.
