Prince Harry gave the first in-depth interview about his life in the US with Meghan Markle and children Archie and Lilibet after last year’s scandalous conversation with Oprah Winfrey – it came out in early March 2021. It was recorded in the Netherlands, where the prince is at the Invincible Games.
On NBC, he admitted that in the past two years he often thinks about his mother, Princess Diana, who died in a car accident in 1997. According to him, he tells his son Archie about her, who has entered the “age of questions” and asks him about everything in the world. In addition, he has several photographs of Lady Dee at his home in California.
Recall that after the departure of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from Britain, the renunciation of royal powers and an interview with Oprah Winfrey, their relationship with the rest of the royal family was very strained. Harry has visited his homeland only twice – he flew to the funeral of his grandfather the Duke of Edinburgh in April and to the opening of the statue of Princess Diana in the garden of Kensington Palace for her 60th birthday in July last year. Megan all this time did not appear on the European continent. Therefore, the news that the couple visited Windsor Castle on the way to the Invincible Games became a sensation.
To talk to Harry and find out how the conversation with grandmother Elizabeth II went was managed by Today NBC TV presenter Oda Kotb. He did not hide his enthusiasm:
It was great to be with her! It was so nice to see her. She is in great shape. She always has a great sense of humor. And I made sure that she is surrounded by care and around her the right people.
According to him, he and the Queen, who will celebrate her 95th birthday tomorrow, have a “special relationship”:
We talk about things that she can’t talk to anyone else about, so it’s always a good time for her, but, you know, at a certain age you get tired of birthdays.
The journalist asked the prince what he loves most about the queen, and received the answer:
Her sense of humor and ability to see the funny in a lot of different things.
The presenter noticed that Elizabeth herself admitted that it was Harry who usually manages to make her laugh, and asked if this was the case this time. The Duke replied:
Yes it was. Megan and I had tea with her, it was a pleasure to meet her. But my home is now in the USA. And I feel it. We were welcomed there with open arms and we have such a wonderful community in Santa Barbara.
