The funeral of the iconic artist of Bahia will be held at the Legislative Assembly of São Paulo (Alesp) this Friday 11
The cause of death of Gal Costa, who died last Wednesday, aged 9, aged 77, will not be released. The information was transmitted by the consultant and producer of Tropicália’s muse, Giovana Chanley. The decision concerns a family request.
Gal Costa died in the house where he lived in São Paulo with his wife Wilma Petrillo and their 17-year-old son Gabriel. The vigil will take place on Friday 11 at the Legislative Assembly of San Paolo (Alesp).
In an interview with LandGiovana was moved by the memory of her boss and friend, who she described as sweet and playful.
“She was a fun person to have as my boss, I laughed a lot with her. She was very sweet. I stayed with her for many years and never had a disagreement, was he rude or fought. “I arrived at his house. [de Gal] around 9am, 10am and helped with whatever she needed. The day the funeral home came to pick her up, I helped her get dressed. But I was here this morning when she came along…she’s sinking, I don’t know how to explain it,” she said through tears.
Gal Costa’s death took everyone by surprise as she had performances in Stockholm and Lisbon this week. Used to producing the iconic artist’s concerts, Giovana found herself in a new role ‘producing’ the funeral, helping with the arrangements, with the guest list, which includes family, friends and employees.
“God has given me the strength until now. Yesterday I did what I had to do, but when the team arrived I collapsed… When I saw my brothers on the street, I saw that it was true,” Giovana regrets.
When asked how the GabrielGal’s 17-year-old son, dealing with the artist’s sudden death, reflects: “I think the blow will come later.”
