We talked with Anna quite recently – the singer became the heroine of the October issue of HELLO !. But on the occasion of the release of the remake of the legendary single “Don’t leave me, darling” we decided to talk to her again.
First of all, we want to congratulate you on the release of a new song. And although artists have releases every day, there are singles that are of great importance – you released one of your first songs as part of the VIA Gra group. So many years of avoiding conversations and not answering questions about the band in interviews, and after 15 years to release its remake. What caused such a decision? Why “Don’t leave me, darling” and why now?
Yes, this is true, in our interviews the question of the VIA Gra group has always been banned. It seemed to me that I had no right to be a part of this glory, that I had an independent life. And I clearly remember this moment when my husband, whom I love madly, arrived in his hometown of Kraslava, went into his small room, turned on the tape recorder and the first song he heard was “Don’t leave me, darling!” and my voice. This was several years ago. When Janis sent me this video and I heard this song, I realized that everything in this life is not accidental, my past connected us in the present. Then I had a crazy idea to cover this song. At some point, I gathered my courage and wrote to Konstantin Meladze. He answered yes. For me, this is not just a song, it is a big work of 20 years, work on myself and my pain. I never said that this song brought me a lot of pain. At some point, 20 years later, when this pain receded, I thought: “Why don’t I sing this song again?”

What meaning did the song have for you fifteen years ago?
Of course, it’s about love and the pain that happens when you love the wrong person, but it seems to me that it doesn’t hurt only those people who don’t get emotional. Those who are able to feel are always very much worried.
For a long time I blamed myself for being overly emotional. I was very worried that I overreact to everything. And four years ago my life changed when I was at a meeting with a psychologist and was in a circle of girls, many of whom said: “I don’t feel anything …”. And I realized that feeling, worrying, worrying is a gift that comes to a few. Therefore, I always encourage my girls to not scold myself for being emotional. 90 percent of people live on this planet without feeling anything. And this song “Do not leave me, my love!” about love and feelings, it was relevant 20 years ago, and now.
Has everything changed now? What does the song mean to you now?
For me personally, “Do not leave me, my love!” is healing. I understand that after 20 years for me in this song there is no pain, but only love. It took me so long to really free myself. And only when I was freed did I accept that part of myself that had always been in me.

Looking at you now, it is impossible not to notice the transformation that is happening very quickly: you have become more engaged in self-development, changed your hairstyle, lost weight and actively play sports. What prompted such a radical impulse for change?
For a long time I was at an emotional bottom. And despite the fact that outwardly everything was fine, inside I was very bad. When I sank to the lowest point, I pushed off this bottom and rose to the surface. I guess I had to fall like that to get back up. And believe me, now you only see 10 percent of what I do. Very soon you will know everything and understand that this breakthrough was incredible.
There is an opinion that women change not so much for themselves, but for the sake of other women. And if you remove the assessment from the outside, then all the trainings, halls and injections are not so important. And men love us in any way. Do you agree with this? You said in one of the interviews that Janis never even said that you had gained weight.
If he loves, then it absolutely does not matter to him whether you have gained weight or lost weight, he will love you any. When there are feelings for a person, then everything else goes by the wayside. But apparently the bogotinka needed to recover by 7 kilograms in order to feel beautiful again now.
Is the new song a look from the present to the past, or does its meaning fit your life at the moment?
This is just a song that can bring a lot of incredible experiences and memories. There is always tenderness and awe in nostalgia. You know, as they say at various trainings: “Remember the time when you were successful …”
“Don’t leave me, love!” will take you to the moment when you loved to madness, not sparing your heart. And, if my listeners feel it, I will consider that my mission in this song has taken place.

Do you read a lot. What was the last thought from the book that made you think deeply?
I love studying the topic of hormones, I’m currently reading the book “The most boring hormone. Dopamine rules everything” by Daniel Lieberman and Michael Lohn. I think that it is important for every woman to understand how it appears, why it disappears, how to start producing it, where the cold comes from in relationships – this is partly also the fault of dopamine. I recommend everyone to study this issue.
Would you like to write a third book? About what?
I’ll tell you a secret: I’m already writing it. Now my most cherished desire is to invite everyone to the presentation of this book. It will be special: if I used to be embarrassed to talk about some things, now I’m ready to be frank, to tell what I feel, how to really and correctly act in my world. I hope this book will make my lovely readers even happier.
