Cassia Kis says she is the victim of “moral harassment” for biased speeches

The actress Cassia Kis, target of a lawsuit for homophobic statements and criticisms for her involvement in anti-democratic demonstrations, has decided to defend herself in a text sent to the Folha de S. Paulo newspaper against what she calls “moral harassment”.

Saying she’s not homophobic, she accuses detractors of spreading lies and complains of being harassed by colleagues.

“In recent days there has been a lot of talk about me. There has been a lot of bad talk, among other things. Even among my work colleagues, whom I have always respected as human and professional creatures, the rumors have been great”, complained the actress in the text.

“Even if I don’t want to hurt anyone, that doesn’t mean I accept the unjust accusations that some have leveled at me. And why? Because I’ve learned the value of a good reputation, built with work and love over many years. And also because I learned that you don’t play with the truth”, continued the interpreter of Cidália in “Travessia”.

“They say that by taking a conservative political stance, I would ‘shame’ the artistic class. If it were only that, fine. But the zum-zum-zum has gone further, because they ascribe to me intentions I didn’t have, words I didn’t say, and crisis that I did not create.

“The pressure on me – real moral harassment – has taken on police contours, while the news reaches me that I am being formally accused of ‘homophobia’ by a group of activists in Rio de Janeiro”, he continued. “No, my dears, I am not and have never been homophobic; I am a liar and an idiotophobic at best,” she defended herself.

Cassia Kis was sued by Grupo Arco-Íris de Cidadania LGBT, through a Public Civil Action, for the crime of homophobia. The group also filed a criminal complaint against the actress for the same reason.

The trial was motivated by the words Cassia Kis actually uttered in a live broadcast with journalist Leda Nagle, when she accused same-sex relationships and “gender ideology” (Bolsonar’s definition of human sexuality) of destroying families and ” human life”.

“Man and woman no longer exist, but woman with woman and man with man, this gender ideology that is already in schools,” said the actress. “I receive images of 6, 7 year olds kissing, two girls kissing, where there is a space called beijódromo”, he continued, in the best “gay kit” style (famous Bolsonarist fake news of the last presidential elections) .

According to Cássia, when there is a relationship between two people of the same sex there is “destruction of human life”. “What’s behind it? Destroying the family. Destroying human life, precisely, because as far as I know, a man with a man does not bear a child, a woman with a woman does not even bear a child. How are we going? do it? “, he asked.

He also criticized the adoption of children by same-sex couples, because they were born only from “a woman’s womb”.

In its petition, Grupo Arco-Íris de Cidadania LGBT states that the actress’ jokes “clearly carry discriminatory and biased content towards homoaffective couples and the LGBTQIAP+ community when they question the validity of its existence”.

The movement is asking for collective compensation for the attacks carried out by Cássia in the order of 250,000 BRL, “for the purpose of promoting policies and programs aimed at combating discrimination and LGBTphobia in the artistic context”. There is also a call for a public retraction and a criminal investigation.

Furthermore, a group of Globo employees filed a complaint with the broadcaster’s Compliance Department against the actress, denouncing that she screams and mistreats her colleagues, even with biased comments. More than 10 employees have signed complaints.

In a press release, the channel said it would not comment on compliance issues, but did specify: “Globo has a Code of Ethics, which must be followed by all employees and equally by all areas of the company – and none of any form of discrimination is tolerated. Likewise, it has an Ombudsman ready to receive any reports of infringements, which are carefully investigated.”

Amidst this controversy, the 64-year-old actress also attended a demonstration in front of the Rio Military Command, where she was cheered amid banners calling for a military coup. A video of her praying on her knees has been compared on social media to identical scenes from the Marcha da Família com Deus pela Liberdade, in support of the 1964 military coup.

Aligned with right-wing extremism, the artist gave fundamentalist and messianic speeches, and even prophesied before the election that Brazil would “shed blood” if Lula won.
