King Abdullah II of Jordan returned to his homeland from Germany, where he underwent surgery to remove a herniated disc. State news agency Petra reported:
His Majesty King Abdullah, accompanied by Her Majesty Queen Rania, returned to Jordan on Tuesday after a successful operation in Germany. HRH Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah and some members of the royal family, as well as senior officials and officers, traveled to Marka Military Airport to greet King Abdullah upon arrival. Royal Jordanian Air Force fighters escorted His Majesty’s aircraft through the airspace of the kingdom.
He was accompanied on the trip by his wife, 50-year-old Queen Rania. She was the first to publish on her blog a picture with her husband taken in a hospital room. And yesterday, Rania published photographs showing their meeting at the gangway with statesmen and sons – Crown Prince Hussein and Prince Hashim. Their sisters stayed at home that day. Hussein, 27, who is first in line to the throne, also posted a picture of his father with the caption:
Grateful that His Majesty quickly recovered and returned home.

Recall that the 60-year-old monarch had previously periodically suffered from severe pain in the spine, which was caused by skydiving in his youth during his service in the royal special forces. Recently, these pains have intensified. On the advice of doctors, on April 10, he flew to Germany to Frankfurt am Main, where he underwent an operation in a specialized clinic. Before the king’s departure, Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah was sworn in as regent in the presence of cabinet ministers.
His Majesty immediately upon arrival thanked the sons and daughters of Jordan, Arab brothers and friends from around the world for their concern about his well-being in connection with the operation, the agency said, citing the royal office.
