The Grammy nominees slate arrived this week, and among the nominees for Best New Artist is duo Wet Leg. The artists compete against Anitta and other artists in the category, which is one of the most important of the evening.
But, after all, who is Wet Leg? The British duo, made up of Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers, released two singles in 2021 that went viral on social media – mainly on TikTok. The hits “Chaise Longue” and “Wet Dream” have decreed the success of the two, together with the Grammy nomination and numerous invitations to festivals in Europe.
“We started making music together without thinking too much about it. We just wanted to have fun and be free. We never intended to be a serious band”, said the duo in an interview with Vogue Brasil some time ago. “I think we are more authentic when we have fun”, one of them joked.
Incidentally, it is worth noting that the musical career of the duo, which has a pop-influenced, but still very distinctive musical style, came during the pandemic. According to the members themselves, during this time they collected a compilation of songs and went in search of a record label. And then, not long after, they went viral.
Now, the girls are already opening shows for major artists from around the world, like Harry Styles, who even performed a cover of “Wet Dream” on a radio show.
