Singer-songwriter Nick Carter has been accused of raping a minor. The case would have occurred in the city of Washington in 2001, when the Backstreet Boys fan was only 17 years old.

In a Facebook Live, victim Shannon “Shay” Ruth said that “the last 21 years have been filled with pain, confusion, frustration, shame and self-harm” as a result of the sexual abuse she suffered.

“Even though I’m autistic and live with cerebral palsy, I don’t think anything has affected me more or had a more lasting impact on my life,” she said.

According to the complaint, Shay attended the boyband’s concert and stood in line for autographs, when Carter invited her to accompany him to the tour bus. On the spot, the singer allegedly gave the autistic young woman a drink called “vip juice,” which was a blend of alcohol and cranberry juice.

After consumption, the artist took Shay to the bus bathroom and ordered her to perform oral sex. Later, Carter allegedly bedded the young woman and continued sexually assaulting her as she asked him to stop.

Shay added that, at the time, she was still a virgin and had contracted the HPV virus after the rape.

Also in the press conference with the lawyers, Shay also accused Carter of using misogynistic and clever terms, such as “retarded bitch”.

“I felt like I had nowhere to go, no way to express my emotions, pain and confusion other than hurting myself. And I truly believed if I told anyone I would go to jail,” she said of the trauma .

According to the woman, the purpose of the complaint is to prevent him from “assaulting more teenagers and women”, and to make him responsible for his pain for years. “Just because Nick Carter is a celebrity doesn’t mean he’s exempt from his crimes. I’m a survivor and always will be,” she concluded the statement.

Through attorney Michael Holtz, the singer said the allegation “is not only legally baseless, but also totally false.”

“Unfortunately, for several years, Ms. Ruth has been manipulated into making false allegations about Nick — and those allegations have repeatedly and materially changed over time. No one should be misled by a press stunt orchestrated by an opportunistic lawyer,” she said.

Though the artist defends the allegation, attorney Mark J. Boskovich added three more cases during his client’s complaint.

“Nick Carter has a long history of abusing women,” said the lawyer, who stresses that the music industry “looks away” from the crimes.

Furthermore, it is not the first time that the composer has been accused of such crimes. In 2017, singer Melissa Schuman alleged that Carter sexually assaulted her when she was a virgin.

“I told him I was a virgin and didn’t want to have sex. I told him I was saving up for my future husband. I said it several times. He whispered in my ear to seduce me that he could be my husband,” she wrote . on a blog at the time.

Conversely, Carter stated in response that the former member of girl group Dream never told him that the sexual intercourse was not consensual.

The allegations have already generated repercussions.

ABC has canceled a screening of a Christmas special featuring the Backstreet Boys, “A Very Backstreet Holiday,” which was taped this month in Los Angeles.
