Former vocalist and guitarist says he could become “rich overnight” if he returned to the band, but guarantees that he doesn’t consider this possibility and justifies
Almost 25 years have passed since he left the Raimundos, Rodolfo Abrantes He’s still often asked about the band — and, most importantly, why he doesn’t consider returning to it.
In a recent podcast interview Ticaracaticast (via Whiplash), the group’s former vocalist and guitarist gave a kind of definitive explanation. According to the musician — who decided to follow the path of religion and became an evangelical pastor — he would no longer “being able to look in the mirror” if he returned.
Abrantes revealed that several people suggested he return to the band, including fellow pastors. However, not even the possibility of staying “rich overnight” convinces him to return to this page that he considers turned over.
Today a solo musician, he states:
“You know I have a pastor friend who already came up with this idea. I have a bunch of crazy friends. He said: ‘Go back to Raimundos and call me to preach!’ (laughter). I’m sure a lot of people would be very happy with that. And, honestly, I’m also sure I would become rich overnight. But I wouldn’t be able to look in the mirror.”
Rodolfo adds about not wanting to return to the group:
“Raimundos is not a band that I abandoned, it is a life that I left. And I bled to leave. It cost blood, first from my God.”
Rodolfo Abrantes does not want to return to Raimundos
During the chat, Rodolfo Abrantes revealed that the band’s show and tour routine Raimundos It involved drugs and a lot of sex. According to him, these are things that are no longer part of his life and returning to the band would mean dealing with past traumas.
He comments:
“The burden I put into that was too much. I poured my life out there. You know that street where you got beaten up, left in a coma? Then someone says: ‘Go back there and take ten more a week’. That’s it. Back to Raimundos It would be reliving a pain that is already behind us.”
The only regret
With the abrupt departure of Raimundos in 2001, Rodolfo spent around 20 years without interacting with his former colleagues, including the guitarist Digão. However, the two made peace during the pandemic.
During a live broadcast held in 2020 with the pastor André Fernandes (via TMDQA), the artist said he did not regret breaking up with the Raimundosjust one detail: the way he handled the situation.
“I believe that everything happens under God’s permission, but if I had asked Him some things, they would be different. I would leave the Raimundos different. It would come out, but differently. I would prepare the band people. I was very surprised by the gospel in my life, with healing and the presence of God, and starting from the Holy Spirit. I left the band at once and I know that it really offended them in a way that we still don’t have a relationship with to this day. [nota: à época, Rodolfo e Digão ainda não haviam se reconciliado].”
