Lionel Messi will have his name linked to a new international tournament. The Inter Miami star announced on social media this Tuesday (14) the creation of the Messi Cup, a competition that will bring together some of the main under-16 clubs in the world. The event will be held in Miami, from December 9th to 14th.

The first edition will feature eight elite teams: Inter Miami, Barcelona, ​​Manchester City, River Plate, Inter, Newell’s Old Boys, Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea. The teams will be divided into two groups and the games will take place in different stadiums in the region, including Chase Stadium, home of Inter Miami.

At 38 years old and with a legendary career, with 194 games and 114 goals for Argentina, as well as eight Ballon d’Ors, Messi takes another step away from the pitch, now promoting the growth of young talents.

“I’m very happy to finally be able to share all this with you. In December, Miami will host a very special youth tournament, with some of the best clubs in the world. The future of football will be in the spotlight, and it won’t just be matches: we will experience incredible days, with many other activities. It’s about the next generation.
