“I just want to talk about balloons and what they are doing to your body. They can deprive your brain of oxygen, cause dizziness, fainting and accidents, lead to long-term nerve damage with repeated use, put a strain on your heart and lungs,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Sept. 30, his last social media post. She died on October 2.
Nitrous oxide itself is not a drug. The substance is used, for example, under the supervision of doctors as a form of sedation. But because it causes euphoria when inhaled – hence its nickname, laughing gas –, there are those who use it for other purposes.
In Amy’s case, the use of the gas caused her to develop fatal blood clots in her heart and lungs.
In a report before her death, she said her nervous system was failing, preventing her from moving in the hospital where she was admitted. He also took advantage of the moment to leave a message to those who also use gas: “You could end up like me.”
