Meghan Markle has claimed she was never treated “like a black woman” until after it was revealed she was having an affair with Prince Harry.
In the third episode of the new docu-series, “Harry & Meghan,” which premiered on Netflix on Thursday, the former “Suits” actress revealed that she felt a change in her treatment after moving to the UK.

The now Duchess of Sussex recounted to the cameras an episode she experienced with her mother, Doria Ragland, when they went to a concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.
According to her, after the show, while they were both walking through the parking lot of the auditorium, her mother honked at the car ahead because she was too late.
“And the woman turned and called out the n-word [negra]. I remember my mother gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles turned white,” he said.
The mother of Princes Archie and Lilybet explained that after this event, Ragland was “quiet” for the rest of the trip home and that they never spoke about it.
“I’ve never heard anyone say the n-word in my life. It’s very different to be a minority without being treated as such from the start,” he said.
Markle is biracial: the daughter of an African-American woman and a white man, Thomas Markle, with whom she is currently not on speaking terms.
“Obviously people are very aware of my race now because they brought it up when I went to the UK, but before that most people didn’t see me as a black woman,” she confessed.
For his part, Ragland revealed that he did warn his daughter what would happen if she decided to pursue a relationship with Princess Diana’s son.
“I told him very clearly, ‘This is about race.’ And “Meg” said, “Mommy, I don’t want to hear that.” I replied, “You may not want to hear it, but that’s what’s coming,” he said.
Meghan Markle talks about the change in her life after starting her romance with Harry
Last August, Meghan Markle opened up for the first time about how people focused more on her tribe when she started dating the Duke of Sussex.
On the second episode of her ‘Archetypes’ podcast, she told guest Mariah Carey that they were treated differently because they had “light skin”.
“They don’t treat you as a black woman or a white woman. You kind of fit in the middle,” he said.
“I mean, if there was a time in my life where my race was the most concentrated, it was when I started dating my husband,” she added.
She stated that it was then that she began to understand “what it was like to be treated as a black woman”, having previously been considered a “mixed” person.
