Globo’s director general of journalism, Ali Kamel, has informed that special reporter Ernesto Paglia will leave TV Globo after almost 44 years. The announcement was made this Monday morning (26/12).
The announcement was made via email, where Kamel recalled the journalist’s long career at the station. The professional will leave the company on the last day of this year, ie Saturday (31/12).
“The cycle of a brilliant reporter, a reference for all of us, closes,” said the director. 🇧🇷[…] A kind and welcoming colleague who will leave an immaculate legacy.”
“His latest reportage on ‘Fantástico’ aired yesterday, 25 December. An away game that recalls another great event of 1982, the year of the Spanish Cup. […] But we will still be able to appreciate Ernesto Paglia’s mastery a little more on the Globo screens”.
In response, the journalist expressed gratitude to the channel for allowing him to work for 13 months in a “home office” during the social isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Rede Globo has always treated me with great correction,” said Paglia. “You can imagine the weight of this experience in my life. I joined Globo when I had just turned 20, I left on the eve of 64”.
“I was able to tell big, beautiful and important stories alongside very competent people. There are still many to tell. New technologies have multiplied the screens. And I think I still have a lot to offer as a journalist, a job that makes me extremely proud To paraphrase an old slogan: ‘See you around,'” he concluded.
During the journalist’s brilliant career, Paglia covered eight World Cups, reported on strikes on ABC Paulista, was twice a correspondent in London, accompanied the visit of Pope John Paul II, among others.
Considering that the special reporter has joined the ranks of veterans who have left the network due to cost cuts, Paglia’s departure could be a wake-up call for his wife, acclaimed journalist Sandra Annenberg.
Sandra, who has been at the station since 1991, could count the days due to her alleged dissatisfaction with the “subposition” of presenter of “Globo Repórter”, where she would only read the introduction of the blocks.
According to behind-the-scenes rumors, the journalist asked to return to daily journalism, as “Jornal Hoje”, but received no response from Globo.
Lately, Ernesto Paglia has worked as reportage producer for “Fantástico”. Although he has left the station, the journalist is expected to appear in a special edition of “Globo Repórter” and in a documentary for Globoplay.
