Bokaloka singer Renatinho fell ill during a performance at a bar in west Rio de Janeiro and was rushed to hospital. The singer died after undergoing a procedure to identify blockage in the coronary arteries.
Renato, lead singer of Bokaloka, died at the age of 48 on Thursday afternoon (5), after suffering a heart attack during a show. The singer fell ill during a performance on Wednesday (4) and scared the audience. He was rescued on the spot and taken to the Lourenço Jorge hospital in Barra da Tijuca, in the west area of Rio de Janeiro, in serious condition.
Renatinho was even transferred to the Instituto Nacional do Coração, in Laranjeiras, but he couldn’t resist. In a statement, the artist’s consultant lamented the loss. “The samba community is in mourning and at this time we ask for much prayer and strength for the artist’s family, friends and fans,” the statement reads.
Claudio Malagueta, head of the group, also intervenes. “Renatinho will always be remembered as one of the great names of Pagode in the 90s, who made the history of Brazilian music. Samba and pagodas are in mourning,” he said.

Born on April 2, 1974, Renatinho was one of the last original members of the Bokaloka, which emerged in 1995, when it was still called “Água na Boca”.
