‘Ghostbusters’ star Dan Aykroyd splits from wife after 39 years of marriage

The office romance between Dan Aykrod and then aspiring actress Donna Dixon, which began in 1982 on the set of Detroit Doctor, has come to an end. The couple announced the news in an official statement to People. 69-year-old Dan and 64-year-old Donna explained that they still love each other, but rather in a friendly way.

After 39 years of marriage, we are on different paths in life. We remain legally married and will continue to be parents, colleagues and business partners. This is our choice because we still love each other, but as friends,” the statement said.

By the way, the long-term marriage with Dixon was not Aykrod’s first attempt to start a family. Before meeting Donna, the Ghostbusters star and Bill Murray’s best friend was engaged to Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars movie saga. Dan made a marriage proposal to the girl during the filming of the film “The Blues Brothers”, where both were filmed. And she agreed, but later broke off the engagement and got back together with ex-boyfriend Paul Simon. And two years later, Donna Dixon appeared in Dan’s life, who completely fascinated the actor. During their marriage, Dan and Donna had three daughters. The oldest, Danielle Aykroyd, is now 32 years old. She performs as a singer and songwriter under the name Vera Sola.
