The actor Armie Hammer has spoken two years later revealing that he suffered sexual abuse at the age of 13 and that he was on the verge of suicide.
The actor Armie Hammerwhom we last saw in ‘Death on the Nile’, has not worked in the cinema since at the beginning of 2021 some screenshots on social networks showing some messages from the actor in which he exhibited some alleged cannibalistic fetishes. At first the thing was taken as a meme, a joke, but they arose abuse allegations by some women, and there was even a complaint for rape which was ultimately dismissed.
The actor’s legal team has since categorically denied these accusationsbut Armie Hammer was removed from projects such as ‘Shotgun Wedding’, with Jennifer Lopez, the thriller ‘Billion Dollar Spy’, the Taika Waititi film ‘Next Goal Wins’, the Broadway play ‘The Minutes’ and the Paramount + series on the filming of ‘The Godfather’ ‘The Offer’, in which he was replaced by Miles Teller.
This weekend, for the first time after two years of silence, Hammer has given the first interview since receiving the accusations and withdrew from the media front line to the Cayman Islands, where he was even mistaken for a hotel concierge.
Speaking to the writer James Kirchick of airmailHammer tries to justify his domineering leanings by a few sexual abuse he received when he was little by a shepherd.
“He introduced sexuality into my life in a way that was completely out of my control. I was powerless in that situation. Sexuality was presented to me in a terrifying way where I had no control. So my wishes were: I want to be in control of the situation, sexually.”
Kirchick asked Hammer if it was “emotionally abusive“with the women and the actor responded”one million percent.”
“I am here to own up to my mistakes, take responsibility for the fact that I was a jerk, that I was selfish, that I used people to make myself feel better, and when I was done, I moved on. Now I am a healthier, happier and more balanced person. I can be there for my kids in a way I never was. I’m truly grateful for my life and my recovery and everything. I would not go back and undo everything that happened to me.”
Hammer has also detailed a suicide attempt that occurred in February 2021.when the accusations of cannibalism and rape made headlines in all the world’s media:
“I just walked into the ocean and swam as far as I could in the hope that I would drown, get hit by a boat, or get eaten by a shark. Then I realized my children were still on land and I couldn’t do that to them.”
After two years and all the accusations, no trial was held nor was there any firm complaint before the authorities. The interview and the statements of the actor go in a very clear direction: Hammer wants to get his career back after checking into a detox clinic and “changing his life”using Robert Downey Jr. as an example, among others.
