Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing a nasty trial in federal court in Florida. The Dukes of Sussex will have to answer questions from Samantha Markle, Meghan’s older half-sister. According to the Daily Mail, a 58-year-old woman filed a complaint against a relative because of statements that defame her.
Looks like Oprah Winfrey’s interview with the royal couple is haunting Samantha. Court documents say Markle’s statements were clearly false and malicious. She added that Prince Harry’s wife also denigrated her reputation in the 2020 book In Search of Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of the Modern Royal Family. The older sister claims that Meghan insulted her entire family. And statements that she did not care about her, Samantha called a lie.
Now, Megan’s relative is asking for $75,000 in damages and a jury trial. For the next few months, they will have to discuss uncomfortable topics. Judge Charlene Edwards Honeywell said she had previously read Megan’s request to dismiss the case, but found no reason to do so.
The accusations subjected her to humiliation, shame and hatred on a worldwide scale, the Duchess’s sister’s lawyer said in a statement.
Samantha is the daughter of Thomas Markle from his first marriage, she has a brother, Thomas Jr. Megan appeared in her second marriage to Doria Ragland. According to Samantha, they had a good relationship with her sister until she married Prince Harry and felt like a star of the first magnitude.
