‘I’m happy to start a new chapter’: Jeremy Scott gives first interview since leaving Moschino

Recently, the media and fashion fans were excited by the news that the creative director of the Moschino fashion house, Jeremy Scott, unexpectedly leaves his post after 10 years of work. Today, the designer gave his first interview for The New York Times since his resignation, where he spoke about the reasons for the decision and new career plans. He is currently based in Seoul working on a massive new sustainable fashion project, Re:Style, with Hyundai.

Jeremy creates evening dresses from used car parts of a famous Korean brand. Hyundai has previously approached the designer to make a custom t-shirt for the World Cup. As part of a new collaboration, he was asked to create a capsule collection of upholstery for car showrooms.

I wanted to take some of that fabric, make dresses out of it, and even go a step further: take real car parts and then come up with ideas for things that were recycled from cars. In this way, we can rethink the use of these details and make something very theatrical, whimsical and unusual.

Jeremy Scott decided to leave the brand to move on on his own. It is not yet known which of the projects the designer will continue to work on. Fashion critics suggest he will return to work on his own Jeremy Scott label, which has been on hiatus since 2019.

It was a big period of time. Ten years is long enough to really finish something. Now it’s time to start a new project. I have nothing but love for Moschino, and I hope that this is how the owners of the brand feel about me. I’m glad I was able to dust off this forgotten brand and bring it back to the map in such a bold, explosive way, and to be honest, my grand finale was Angela Bassett at the Oscars.
