It’s hard to imagine a wardrobe without a shirt. Yes, it is difficult – it is impossible! The first thing a stylist will advise you if you are composing a basic capsule is simply to buy a good plain shirt, most often, of course, white. And that’s not an easy task, by the way! Yes, there are a huge number of seemingly suitable models in stores, but most of them are categorically not suitable for us. Because in addition to design and color, they have at least five details that can reduce the cost of the image and spoil the whole image.

Do you remember how mom, choosing a jacket for growing up, always felt her shoulders? There should therefore be no “undershoot” or “flight”, the shoulders are in their place or not. Of course, oversized implies additional volume: if the sleeve line is slightly lowered, we allow this option. We never tire of talking about the importance of good content. High-quality fabric is already half of the “expensive” and decent look. We put aside the shirts that are still in store: they are too translucent, lose threads, wrinkle a lot, crumble, appear greyish (if you are looking for a white model). They won’t last long!

The main problem that spoils images with shirts is their irrelevant cut. The fitted silhouettes, so scolded by stylists, are not a wild anti-trend: on the contrary, many designers deliberately “thin” the shirt at the waist to emphasize the silhouette. But this trick works in conjunction with voluminous sleeves and sufficient product length, if these elements are not present, one does not buy a shirt.

Separately, take a closer look at the necklace: if it has lost its appearance and “stretched out” (everyone is tired, we understand), without leaving the store, this is a reason for postponing a dubious find. You may not like the stand-up collar and put it on your shoulders like a sweater, but if this element of the shirt is not padded, it will look “cheap” and neglected in any case.

The decor is also not our enemy, but it is worth choosing it very, very carefully. If you are intentionally looking for a shirt with an interesting accent, then a band under the collar or embroidery can be an interesting solution. But in basic models, these details should be kept to a minimum and ideally excluded. Yes, sometimes even a logo can spoil the impression of the most harmonious look – so what’s the risk?
