Gillian Anderson celebrated her 58th birthday on Sunday with a makeup-free selfie on Instagram, wearing a purple party hat.
The two-time Emmy winner, who has 6.1 million social media followers, wrote "Thank you everyone for all my birthday messages!"
Fans flooded the comments section with amazement at her appearance. Instagram user @adacelik090 wrote "I wanna age like this bro, WTF!" while @valeriagiir commented "Aged like good wine, OMFG!"
Instagram user @vvdm90 wrote "45 again, how do you do it!.. Congrats!" and @sc4rxli3zz._ wrote in all caps "HOW DOES SHE STILL LOOK THE SAME?" Instagram user @williambarney36 called her "still freaking gorgeous."
Rehearsing for a West End revival
Anderson has been in rehearsals for a West End production of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? She is playing Martha opposite Billy Crudup's George in Marianne Elliott's three-hour revival of Edward Albee's 1962 play. The production runs September 21 through December 19 at the @sohoplace theater in London.
Anderson also reposted birthday tributes from The Last King of Scotland co-star Kerry Washington and Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma co-star Hannah Einbinder.
New slasher film and upcoming roles
Anderson currently stars as final girl Billy Presley in Jane Schoenbrun's critically acclaimed slasher satire Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, which earned back just $251,500 of its $10 million budget in its opening weekend. The film also stars Einbinder, Sarah Sherman, Kevin McDonald and Dylan Baker, and hits UK theaters August 21.
The Daily Mail reached out to Anderson's representative for comment about the birthday celebrations but did not immediately hear back.
Anderson also has a role in Niki Byrne's coming-of-age drama The Julia Set, about a young mathematician preparing for a contest, which premieres at the Toronto Film Festival next month.
Return to Dana Scully
On July 21, Anderson reprised her breakout role as FBI Special Agent Dana Scully for a commercial for The LEGO Ideas The X-Files set.
Anderson told the LA Times last Thursday: "The strange thing is I don't identify with Scully in the same way I do with other characters that I played for much less time. Part of that is because of how square she was. I have such an intrinsically rebellious nature. I can, obviously, play square, but I think because of that, she didn't necessarily get her hooks inside me in the way that some of these other characters that really push against the establishment did."
Anderson played the skeptical FBI agent for 11 seasons of Chris Carter's Fox drama, airing from 1993 to 2002 and again from 2016 to 2018, followed by the films The X-Files in 1998 and The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008. Director Ryan Coogler began shooting a Hulu reboot in May starring Danielle Deadwyler, Himesh Patel, Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi and Ben Foster.

Anderson's other upcoming projects include Ben Affleck's crime thriller Animals for Netflix, Peter Morgan's seventies-set miniseries The Boys from Brazil for Netflix, Chris Roberts' video game Squadron 42 and Nicholas Ashe Bateman's animated film The Turning Door.
Anderson was born in Chicago but has lived in London since 2002, after growing up there from ages two to 11.
She has reportedly been in an on/off romance with British playwright and screenwriter Peter Morgan for the last decade. Anderson's eldest child, 31-year-old daughter Piper Maru Anderson-Klotz, was born during her marriage to X-Files assistant art director Clyde Klotz, which ended in 1997. She is also mother to two teenage sons, Oscar, 19, and Felix, 17, with businessman Mark Griffiths, whom she split from in 2012.
