Greek singer Dimitris Kokotas has died at the age of 57 following a two-year battle for survival after suffering a heart attack and cardiac arrest during a television filming session in March 2024.
The musician passed away after being hospitalized at the Georgios Gennimatas Hospital, where his family remained by his side throughout his care. His death has prompted widespread grief across the artistic community.
Kokotas is survived by his wife, Katerina Petraki, and their daughter. Petraki stayed continuously at the hospital during his treatment, holding onto hope that he would recover and return home to resume their family life.
In December 2025, Petraki spoke about his condition during an interview on the television show To Proino. She stated that Kokotas was in a stably good condition and maintained understanding, adding her heartfelt hope that the coming year would bring him home healthy and strong.
Meeting and marriage
Kokotas had previously shared the story of how he met Petraki, describing their initial encounter as an unexpected moment of love at first sight. The two met when Petraki visited a nightclub venue where Kokotas was performing to request an autograph for her younger sister.
Impressed by her appearance, Kokotas provided the autograph and asked for her telephone number so they could stay in contact. He later noted in interviews that while Petraki was not part of his formal fan club, she declared herself a fan, and their connection grew into a lasting relationship.
Speaking about their marriage, Kokotas stated that he did not know if a specific secret existed for long-term marital success, but emphasized that they had fallen deeply in love. He noted that he cherished memories of their trips, outings, and surprises, choosing to focus on his wife's positive qualities.
Family life and daughter
The couple welcomed their daughter, Riana, in 2011. Kokotas described the birth of their child as the direct outcome of their deep love for one another.
Riana was informed about her father's medical status following his cardiac arrest and tried to stay strong throughout his hospitalization. Kokotas had often spoken of the joy she brought to their lives and his desire to spend as much time with her as possible.
In past interviews, Kokotas described how the family spent time together, explaining that they frequently played an educational game in which Riana acted as a teacher while her parents served as students. He stated that through this routine game, Riana learned her school lessons starting from kindergarten.
