Actress Helena Bonham Carter was pictured riding through a red traffic light on an electric bike during an outing in central London on Friday.

The 60-year-old actress, who played Princess Margaret in Netflix period drama series The Crown, appeared to show no regard for the UK Highway Code as she whizzed through the red signal while running errands in the capital.

Bonham Carter was riding a £2,990 Voltaire Rivoli electric city bike in English Green. Paris-based e-bike maker Voltaire designs vintage-style electric cycles for urban riding. She had accessorized the two-wheeler with a £39 Victorian classic basket mounted on the front.

Sensibly, the actress wore a £79 ocean edition helmet by Dashel, choosing a sustainable headgear design created to support marine conservation work.

Her outfit for the ride consisted of a plaid jacket worn over a blue cardigan, paired with £149 semi-sheer pantaloon trousers featuring lace panels from contemporary fashion brand AllSaints. She completed the look with £787 Slidy Viv' leather sandals by luxury footwear designer Roger Vivier.

Cycling rules and red light fines
Transport for London, the statutory body governing London's transit network, states that cyclists in the UK must legally stop at red traffic lights. Cycling through a red light can result in a £50 fixed penalty notice.

Under the UK Highway Code, cyclists must obey all red traffic lights at standard road junctions as well as pedestrian and cycle crossings. The only exception occurs if a dedicated green cycle arrow or signal specifically permits riders to proceed.

Enforcement across the capital has ramped up in recent months. The City of London Police, the police force overseeing the capital's historic financial district, issued over 1,300 notices for red-light and safety violations within a single year.
The Daily Mail has contacted a representative for Bonham Carter for comment regarding the sighting.
Personal life and relationships
Bonham Carter is typically seen walking around town on dog walks with her partner Rye Dag Holmboe, 38, whom she describes as an old soul.
Following the end of her 13-year partnership with director Tim Burton, with whom she collaborated on films such as Planet of the Apes and shares two children, Bonham Carter found love with Holmboe. The art historian is 21 years her junior, and the couple met during a chance encounter at a mutual friend's wedding.
Speaking about her relationship with Holmboe in December, Bonham Carter confessed: "I mean, we're not meant to be forever."
She added: "And I've never actually gotten married because I can't say those [words], I can't honestly make that promise because I just don't think it's a healthy one."
