Greek actress Iro Mane is mourning the death of her mother, according to a social media post by actor and lawmaker Spyros Bimbilas.
Bimbilas said the news came as the theatre troupe was already in Chios for its only scheduled performance there. He said that despite the heavy personal loss, the show would go on as planned that evening.
Bimbilas's announcement
Bimbilas wrote that the troupe would perform alongside a heavy human grief. He said Mane's mother, referred to as Kyra Georgia, a native of Chios, had died while the troupe was on the island, and that the performance of Romeo and Juliet would be dedicated to her memory.
He called it the hardest circumstance for an actor who respects the audience, given it was their only scheduled show in Chios. He offered Mane courage, said everyone stood by her side, and wished her mother a good journey, saying she would watch from the sky and smile.
Performance to proceed
Bimbilas confirmed the scheduled Chios performance would not be cancelled. The cast will dedicate the show to the memory of Iro Mane's mother.
