Andres Muschietti, creator of It: Welcome to Derry, has revealed details about the show’s second season in an interview with Variety.
The new episodes will be set in 1935, 27 years before the events of Season 1, and will center on the Bradley Gang massacre from Stephen King’s original novel, in which a group of criminals hides from law enforcement in Derry and spreads chaos across the city.
Muschietti said children in Season 2 will not have the comfortable lives they had in Season 1. Some are orphans or runaways, and he described Derry as almost a cemetery, its residents exhausted, poor, unemployed, and homeless. The bleaker setting will give Pennywise more room for brutality. The creator also said the series will not sidestep the harsh social and cultural realities of the era, calling them the heart of the story, though a glimmer of hope will carry the new group of protagonists.
Season 1 debuted in fall 2025 to strong reviews, earning 80 percent from critics and 82 percent from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. A release date for Season 2 has not been announced.
