French feature film It's Only an Illusion will open in Russian cinemas on January 1, 2027, film distribution company Kino.Art.Pro has announced. The upcoming project is directed and written by Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano, the acclaimed French filmmaking duo behind the hit comedy-drama The Intouchables.
Set in Paris during 1985, the story centers on a 12-year-old boy named Vincent who lives alongside his brother and their constantly arguing parents. Amid the ongoing household tension, Vincent falls in love for the first time and gradually begins discovering the realities of adult life.
The project features an ensemble cast led by French actors Louis Garrel, Simon Boublil, and Camille Cottin. Garrel previously starred in the romantic musical Love Songs, while Cottin's film credits include the French action drama Yamakasi: Freedom in Motion.
Filmmakers and background
Co-directors Nakache and Toledano achieved international prominence with their 2011 comedy-drama The Intouchables, known in Russia under the title 1+1. The film achieved massive box office success worldwide and became one of the most celebrated French movies of all time. The filmmaking pair later wrote and directed the 2019 drama film The Specials, which focused on dedicated caregivers assisting children and young adults with autism in Paris.
Lead actor Louis Garrel has built an extensive career in French cinema as both an actor and filmmaker, appearing in numerous acclaimed romantic and dramatic features over two decades. Co-star Camille Cottin has similarly established herself as a major figure in French film and television, starring in diverse comedic and dramatic roles.
Theatrical release schedule
Film distribution company Kino.Art.Pro will handle the theatrical release of the French period drama across Russia. Cinema audiences will be able to view the new film on big screens nationwide starting on January 1, 2027.
