Iván Armesto, a finalist on the first Spanish edition of "Gran Hermano" (Big Brother) and a casting director, has become a father again at the age of 60. His daughter Vega was born on August 20, 2026, at the Hospital Infantil de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, in Spain's Canary Islands.
Vega is Armesto's second daughter overall, but the first with his current partner, with whom he has been in a relationship for a decade. Speaking to the Spanish newspaper LA RAZÓN, Armesto said he felt immensely happy, describing Vega as a baby who had been very much wanted and longed for.
"Gran Hermano" is the Spanish version of the Big Brother format, first broadcast in 2000, in which a group of contestants live together under constant camera surveillance while the public votes each week on who should be eliminated. The show's first edition turned several of its housemates into household names, including Armesto, who went on to build a career as a casting director in Spanish television.
Addressing the age controversy
Armesto used the interview to correct reports about his partner's age. He said his partner was not 21, as some media outlets had reported, but 46, adding that she looked much younger than her age. He clarified that it was in fact his other daughter, Raquel, who was in her twenties.
He also addressed criticism he had received on social media over becoming a father at 60. He said people should ignore such attacks, since they came from people who did not know him, did not know his circle, and had no idea what he did for a living or what kind of person he was. He described the criticism as coming from people who spread hatred simply to draw attention to themselves.
Life as a father at 60
Asked how he was experiencing fatherhood at 60, Armesto said he felt very happy. He said that when his partner told him she was pregnant, he felt a tremendous emotion, and that his daughter, whom they named Vega, had arrived at the perfect moment in his life.
Asked whether he felt more prepared for this birth than for the birth of his first daughter, Armesto said he did, with more wisdom and patience to pass on everything he had learned over the years. He also pointed to a financial security he had not had before, saying that was why he described his daughter's arrival as coming at the perfect time.
A healthy baby girl named Vega
Describing his newborn, Armesto said Vega was very pretty, like her mother, and very good-natured. He said she was born on August 20 at the Hospital Infantil de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a region he said he adores, and that she was very healthy, calling her a blessing.
He added that her older sister Raquel was very happy about her new sibling, and that the whole family was smitten with the baby.
