Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin, 41, confirmed he will return to Brazil in 2027, announcing the news on a giant screen at the end of his headline set at Rock in Rio on Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The message displayed at Palco Mundo, the festival's main stage, read "J Balvin, Palmeiras stadium 2027," confirming a concert at the São Paulo venue for that year. Palmeiras' stadium, known as Allianz Parque, is located in São Paulo and has previously hosted large-scale concerts in addition to football matches.
The announcement capped Balvin's first appearance at Rock in Rio, one of the world's largest music festivals, held in Rio de Janeiro, its original host city. During the set, on Palco Mundo, the stage reserved for the festival's biggest headline acts each night, he brought Brazilian artists Pedro Sampaio and Melody onstage to join him.
Pedro Sampaio and Melody join the set
Balvin performed "Perversa," a track he released in 2024 with Pedro Sampaio, a Brazilian DJ and producer known for blending funk carioca with electronic dance music. Sampaio, who had already performed on the same stage earlier that day, returned to tell the crowd he had a gift for Balvin before calling singer Melody up to join them.
Melody, a Brazilian singer who first rose to fame as a child performer, is now building a career as a pop artist. Balvin also ran through several of his best-known songs during the set, including "Amarillo," "Sola Conmigo," "Ginza" and "La Canción." He closed with "Downtown," his collaboration with Brazilian pop star Anitta, known internationally for hits such as "Envolver."

J Balvin, whose full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, is one of the most streamed reggaeton artists in the world, known for global hits such as "Mi Gente" and "6 AM." Saturday's concert marked his first appearance at Rock in Rio, a festival founded in 1985 that has since expanded from Rio de Janeiro to editions in Lisbon, Madrid and Las Vegas.
News of the 2027 date quickly spread on social media, including from fan accounts such as JBalvinCharts, which shared the announcement online.
Demi Lovato and Maroon 5 close out the day
Balvin's performance was one of two headline sets on the sixth day of Rock in Rio, with American singer Demi Lovato and the band Maroon 5 also topping the bill on Palco Mundo that Saturday. Lovato, a former Disney Channel star known for hits including "Sorry Not Sorry," is one of the most anticipated acts of this year's festival.
She arrived in Brazil on Thursday, September 10, and is scheduled to play two further shows in São Paulo following her Rock in Rio appearance.
Maroon 5, the American pop rock band fronted by Adam Levine and known for hits such as "Sugar" and "Moves Like Jagger," also toured Brazil as part of its "Love Is Like World Tour." The band performed in São José do Rio Preto, Salvador and São Paulo on September 6, 8 and 10 respectively.
