Jaime Salmoreno Drops New Single 'You're the Light'

Jaime Salmoreno, the Spanish priest whose voice became known during Pope Leo XIV's visit to Spain, released his second single, "You're the Light," on Friday, September 4, 2026.

The song's Spanish title, "Tu eres la luz," leaves little doubt about the spiritual message at its core. It arrives with a video built on minimalism and intimacy that shows small, everyday details standing in for the wider work of creation, the kind of ordinary moments that, taken together, reveal something greater.

Salmoreno first drew attention only a few months ago, when his voice featured among the performances built around Pope Leo XIV's visit to Spain. He sang at the youth vigil held in Plaza de Lima in Madrid and was also one of the composers behind "Alza la mirada," the official anthem written for the pontiff's trip to the country.

A Soft Sound Built to Rise

On "You're the Light," Salmoreno works with a gentle arrangement of piano, guitar and drums, with the drums gradually taking on more weight as the track develops. As in his earlier work, he plays with shifts in intensity depending on how much emphasis a line of the song needs, and shows he can reach high notes with apparent ease. The track sits within the ballad format he has favoured so far, a style in which he appears comfortable while still having plenty more to show.

As has become part of his approach, Salmoreno also released a Spanish-language version of the same song for listeners less familiar with English. That version allows the nuances of the lyrics to come across more directly in his native language, and gives audiences the choice of which rendition to listen to, or the chance to compare the two.

Following His Debut Single

"You're the Light" builds on Salmoreno's debut single, "All Is Yours Now," which reached streaming platforms three months earlier. The new song follows the same melodic line and mood, continuing his focus on drawing out emotion through music, a path he came to almost by accident.

Salmoreno's move into music began with a video he shared with his mother that went viral and eventually reached the music industry, which moved quickly to sign him. That video was a cover of "Shallow," the song performed by Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga for the soundtrack of "A Star Is Born," which brought them widespread success.

His YouTube channel currently holds only three uploads: his two released singles and the cover video that first set his musical career in motion. His songs are also part of the wider rotation played on CADENA 100.
