Jennifer Lawrence has joined Instagram, and the 36-year-old two-time Oscar winner is already joking about leaving. The Indian Hills, Kentucky, native made her first post on the platform on Thursday, a self-taken video in which she declared that any hint of negativity would send her packing.
"So yeah, I'm giving it a shot and if anyone says anything negative I will quit immediately no questions asked," she said in the deadpan clip. "If anyone thinks something mean, I'll know. I'll know. And I'll quit."
Lawrence doubled down on the threat in an Instagram Story, writing: "Please be mindful that any mean or aggressive comments can negatively affect the baby." She then delivered the punchline: "It's me. I'm the baby."
Her bio also got a laugh, revealing that her preferred handle, @jenniferlawrence, was already taken. It reads simply: "jenniferlawrence was taken."
Lawrence has two young sons with her husband, art gallerist Cooke Maroney: Cy, four, and a second son born in March 2025 whose name she has kept private. Within a short time on the app, she has amassed more than 900,000 followers.
A long-awaited return to social media
Lawrence has famously kept her distance from social media throughout her career despite being a relatively open celebrity in interviews. In June 2020, she joined Twitter, now X, under the handle @JLawrence_RepUs strictly for activism, serving as a board member for the group Represent.Us to advocate for social justice and political reform.
She posted just 19 times on that account, with her final post, urging the cancellation of student debt, going up on November 19, 2021.
Cosmetic confessions
The Instagram debut comes just a week after the Silver Linings Playbook star opened up about the cosmetic work she has had done, and the procedure she wants but is too nervous to try, in an interview with Vogue. Fans have long marveled at how little her complexion has changed since she broke out in Winter's Bone in 2010.
"I can't really get very much done," she told the magazine. "I need to have movement in my face - I get baby Botox, but I can't do a lot." She said she otherwise relies on facials, reasoning: "If my skin is going to be a little saggier than I would like, at least it looks dewy and pretty."
Lawrence said she has been left "really nervous" by the growing trend for fat transfers. "I support other people doing them because I want to continue to watch and see what happens, but I don't know about that," she said. She was more direct about one procedure she is holding off on: "I would love to have a buccal fat removal. I can't because everybody would know, but just know that I want that."
Skincare routine and surgery plans
Her current skincare routine centers on what she called a "retinol journey," using Tretinoin cream alongside an unlikely helper, Desitin diaper rash ointment. "I fell for that Desitin, the diaper cream at night, which I do stand by, not permanently because it's not moisturizing," the Hunger Games star said. "But when you're going up on retinol and your face gets red, sleeping in the Desitin, I noticed that it did make my pores smaller and it healed the redness."
Lawrence disclosed last October that she plans to undergo breast enhancement because of the toll her second pregnancy took on her body. "Everything bounced back, pretty much, after the first one. Second one, nothing bounced back," she told The New Yorker. She also noted she has a nude scene to film in the coming months, though she did not name the project.
She said she would still pursue the procedure even if she were not a celebrity, adding: "Maybe I wouldn't be hustling to the appointment in the same way." As for the recent surge in facelifts, the No Hard Feelings actress insisted she has not had one, but conceded, "But I'm gonna!"
On beauty maintenance
Lawrence said she has grown weary of even routine upkeep because of how long it takes. "I hate getting my hair colored. I also hate going to the nail salon. I saw a tweet that was like: 'It's like going to the hand dentist,'" she said. "It's not relaxing. It's not fun. It's really, really boring. It takes so long." She joked about wanting a manicure and pedicure "while I'm, like, driving and getting something done."
The American Hustle actress also said she has given up on vitamin C cream, explaining it is "over for me" because "I heard that it's fake." She is not opposed to ingestible vitamins, however, saying: "I believe in my heart that vitamin C is going to help my skin, but I don't know."
