Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence is set to star in The Flood, an upcoming original science fiction thriller from writer and director Zach Cregger for New Line Cinema and Warner Bros.
The project marks a new collaboration between Cregger and the studio following their previous work on the feature film Weapons. Cregger will write and direct the feature from an original concept, while also serving as a producer on the film.
The casting choice was confirmed and celebrated by Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, the presidents of Warner Bros Motion Picture. The studio executives described Lawrence as one of the most talented and compelling actresses working today, adding that they were thrilled to have her lead Cregger's bold and completely original vision for the movie.
For Lawrence, who recently opened an Instagram account, The Flood joins an increasingly busy production slate. The actress recently starred in Die, My Love, a role that earned her a Golden Globe nomination.
Lawrence is also scheduled to return as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. In addition, she will join the ensemble cast of What Happens at Night, a new thriller directed by Martin Scorsese and co-starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

The core concept for The Flood struck him suddenly and became the foundation for the entire movie. Although no official plot summary is available, the setting indicates that space will play an important role in the feature film.

According to a report by Deadline, The Flood is scheduled to arrive in movie theaters on August 8, 2028.
