The Los Angeles-based girl group KATSEYE launched their sold-out Wildworld arena tour in Dublin, Ireland on Tuesday, performing high-energy choreography to a packed crowd of children, teenagers and parents despite missing two band members.
The four performing members took to the stage for a two-hour show, but the opening concert sparked concern among fans online over their revealing outfits and member Megan Skiendiel performing demanding dance routines while recovering from an ankle injury.
Skiendiel was seen wearing thigh-high boots while executing complex dance steps just one week after a sprained ankle forced KATSEYE to cancel their scheduled performance at American singer Olivia Rodrigo's Daisy Chain Fields music festival to give her extra rest before the tour.
The demanding routines raised immediate questions on social media regarding her recovery timeline, with one fan asking, 'What kind of magic experiments did they do with her ankle within one week to perform like this?'
Another follower expressed worry about the physical toll on the performer across upcoming dates, commenting, 'Megan performing on an injured ankle. Won't last long for the remaining tour!'
Observers also noted that high-risk stunts and choreography present elevated dangers during an extensive concert schedule compared to short television appearances. A third fan wrote, 'As cool as some of these moves are, I think they’re better suited for award shows or anything where they aren’t performing for hours. Having lifts like this on a tour just increases the risk of injury which is absolutely the last thing KATSEYE needs right now.'
Stage routines and costume reactions
During the Dublin arena concert, the group transformed the venue stage into a mini nightclub environment, featuring intense group numbers and solo segments. Member Daniela Avanzini got on all fours and started twerking during a solo performance on stage.
All four performing women appeared in scantily-clad stage outfits consisting of bedazzled tiny cropped tops and mini skirts that left their midriffs on full display.
The revealing wardrobe prompted humor and criticism from social media users, with one fan joking online, 'Their clothes went on hiatus!'
Another viewer questioned whether the performers felt comfortable in the provocative attire, asking, 'Do you guys think KATSEYE are uncomfortable shaking ass in lingerie?'
Despite the online debate surrounding costumes and injuries, the arena show received rave reviews from many attending fans and parents inside the venue. One parent praised the concert experience after taking their child, gushing, 'My daughter's first ever concert and it was incredible! I've been to many a concert over the years and I have to say this one took the number one position.'
Previous television controversy
The controversy surrounding the group's stage wardrobe follows similar backlash last month during an appearance on NBC's morning news program, the Today show, broadcast across the United States.
During that live television performance in August, KATSEYE delivered a wild rendition of their single Hootie Frutti in bedazzled tiny cropped tops and mini skirts with exposed midriffs.
The daytime performance generated complaints from viewers who felt the choreography and attire were unsuitable for a morning television audience. One user stated that they turned off the show, writing, 'I actually turned the channel during the episode by KATSEYE today. The outfits and dance moves were not appropriate for kids in the audience.'
A second viewer echoed those concerns regarding the broadcast, adding, 'They were very scantily dressed and their dancing was suggestive.'
Member hiatuses and tour lineup
KATSEYE launched their international tour with only four active members: Megan Skiendiel, Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, and Yoonchae Jeung. Two of the original six group members remain absent from public performances.
Member Manon Bannerman has been on an extended hiatus from all group activities for health reasons since February 20.
Fellow member Sophia Laforteza took a hiatus on August 7 to focus on her personal health and wellness. The 23-year-old singer recently confirmed that she will not participate in any dates on the European leg of the tour.
While her bandmates perform on stage in Europe, Laforteza has been spotted by fans visiting Disneyland in Anaheim, California, and spending time with friends. Her mother Carla recently told Vogue Philippines that her daughter goes to Disneyland every day and is currently baking, painting, and doing everything to get mentally well.
International tour schedule and chart success
Following their tour opener in the Irish capital on September 1, KATSEYE are scheduled to play multiple dates in London before embarking on shows across continental Europe. The tour will subsequently move to North America for concerts in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The tour launch comes while KATSEYE are enjoying their highest commercial success to date. Their five-track EP Wild recently debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart with 170,000 copies sold in its first week.
The achievement marks the biggest US album debut for a girl group since American pop group Danity Kane released Welcome to the Dollhouse in 2008. Several tracks from the EP have landed on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, including Animal, which reached No. 24, and Hootie Frutti, which debuted at No. 31.
Formed in 2023 through the global reality competition series Dream Academy, the Los Angeles-based group scored their biggest hit with Gabriela, which reached No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track earned a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2026 Grammy Awards, where KATSEYE were also nominated for Best New Artist, an award won by British solo artist Olivia Dean.
