Kelly Osbourne has revealed that the death of her father, Ozzy Osbourne, sent her back to drinking after more than four years of sobriety, describing herself as "a shell" of who she used to be.
The 41-year-old spoke on the podcast "We Need To Talk" on Tuesday, September 15, and said that in the aftermath of her father's death she was unable even to take care of herself. She said her grief was so overwhelming that she found it impossible to manage.
She said she had been a shell of herself, unable to talk, unable to eat, unable to do anything, and that she was simply empty.
A Difficult Relapse
Osbourne described reaching a complete breaking point, admitting that she started drinking again because she could not handle what was happening around her.
She said she had been broken in every way a person can be broken, and completely unable even to look after herself. She said she hit zero, started drinking again, lost her mind, and could not manage it.
Ozzy Osbourne was the frontman of the pioneering rock band Black Sabbath and later became known to a wider audience through reality television, earning the nickname the "Prince of Darkness." Kelly Osbourne, his daughter, has built her own career as a television personality and singer.
Eight Months Sober
Despite the setback, Osbourne said she has since managed to get back on her feet and return to sobriety. She said she could honestly say that she was now eight months sober, stressing the significant effort it took to leave that difficult period behind.
She said the support of the people close to her had been especially important. She explained that after losing her father, she distanced herself from several people who could not understand her grieving process.
She said she was surrounded by the most incredible people, and that she had closed her circle because she lost many friends who did not like sadness and expected her to have gotten over it already.
"I'm Never Going to Get Over It"
Osbourne ended by speaking candidly about the fact that she does not believe she will ever get over losing her father.
She said she was never going to get over it, and that she never, ever would.
