Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have walked the red carpet together in Los Angeles for the premiere of "Practical Magic 2".
The actresses play sisters Gillian and Sally Owens in the upcoming film, reuniting on screen nearly three decades after they first took on the roles in the original 1998 movie.
The pair both chose black for the event but interpreted the colour in contrasting ways. Kidman opted for lace and transparencies by Atelier Versace, while Bullock chose a minimalist velvet dress by Louis Vuitton.
Atelier Versace debut
Kidman's outfit marks the first time a woman has publicly worn a design by Pieter Mulier for Atelier Versace. The appearance came ahead of the designer's official runway debut for the Italian fashion house.
The custom black dress was created using an intarsia lace technique to give an almost transparent effect over the skin. The bodice is fitted before flowing into an asymmetrical lace skirt, which is left open and cut longer on one side to reveal one bare leg.
Kidman completed the outfit with a black lace choker and lace heels. The design relies on traditional Versace codes of sensuality and body construction, while introducing Mulier's delicate approach to the female form.
Mulier was appointed creative director of Versace in February. He arrived at the brand after five years at the helm of Alaïa, where he became known for his work with the female silhouette and dressed celebrities including Zendaya, Rihanna and Hailey Bieber.
Louis Vuitton velvet
Bullock chose a black velvet Louis Vuitton dress designed by Nicolas Ghesquière. The long, fitted silhouette featured defined shoulders to structure the upper part of the garment.
The dress was detailed with a large white XXL collar ending in two long points, matched with wide white cuffs. A plunging neckline covered by a transparent panel sat below the collar.
Bullock kept her accessories minimal with small earrings, wearing her long, slightly wavy hair parted to one side. The outfit offered a severe, graphic take on the dark aesthetic.
The actresses presented two distinct versions of the gothic style. Kidman offered a romantic and sensual interpretation through sheer lace and an asymmetrical cut, while Bullock provided a minimalist and definitive approach through heavy velvet, tailoring, and a stark black and white colour palette.
The Los Angeles premiere follows the start of the press tour in London a few days ago, where Kidman wore Chanel and Bullock opted for Givenchy. They are joined in the sequel by returning actors Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, while Joey King and Maisie Williams join as a new generation of the family.
