Russian film director Kirill Sokolov will direct the sci-fi thriller Blur for streaming service Netflix, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sokolov is known for his 2018 black comedy Papa, Sdokhni.
Blogger BadComedian, also known as Evgeny Bazhenov, told National News Service that the collaboration is expected because Netflix prioritizes financial profit over politics. He said the American corporation focuses on securing views, audience attention, and viewer retention by hiring successful directors from around the world.

Bazhenov noted that Netflix buys films in various languages and adds subtitles, turning some projects into international hits. He added that releasing movies on a major streaming platform offers directors better prospects for reaching a wide audience than theatrical releases.
Bazhenov stated that a shortage of quality content has left audiences hungry for material, forcing the company to draw talent from any region with creative people. Film critic Alexander Golubchikov previously explained to National News Service how Netflix decides to start or cancel projects.
