Colombian influencer Natalia Segura, known as La Segura, has addressed the alarm her followers felt after she said she had been medically “written off,” clarifying that the phrase did not mean she was given a terminal prognosis and announcing that a multidisciplinary medical team will evaluate her case.
Segura, wife of Uruguayan pastry chef Ignacio Baladán, posted a new video explaining what she meant. She said that when she used the word “desahuciada,” she was describing the reconfirmation, once again, that the chronic pain she has lived with for years is permanent and will not go away, no matter how much she wishes it would.
The pain dates to 2013, when she was shot in the back in her home country. She said that despite her difficult emotional state, she does not believe she has depression, calling that a higher level of struggle. She stressed that she does not want to die and described herself as doing everything she can to climb out of a dark place.
She pushed back on any suggestion she had given up, asking rhetorically when anyone had ever seen La Segura quit.
The most significant news in the video was her decision to submit her case to a medical staff that would include a neurologist, a physiatrist, a psychologist, and a spine specialist. She said this step comes after a neurostimulator and other treatments failed to bring relief. The team will meet around her case to analyze it and explore whatever options remain. She acknowledged the appointments could take her far from home and disrupt her work and time with her son, but said she would follow every instruction so as not to lose the opportunity for the panel to find new alternatives.
Segura said looking at her son reminds her she must be strong, for him, for her husband, for her family, and for the followers who may be going through similar struggles. She said she has no intention of living as a victim.
She also said she does not plan to turn her health into a running media story and will not report on what the panel decides unless a treatment actually works.
