Spanish television network Antena 3 will premiere the new season of its flagship Friday night talent show La Voz on September 18. Host Eva González returns to present the upcoming edition, which features a refreshed panel of judges made up of Mika, Lola Índigo, Melendi, and Pablo López.
The production is headed by executive producer Encarna Pardo at ITV Studios Iberia. The musical talent competition returns to the prime-time schedule backed by strong ratings from the previous season, when it achieved a 13.5 percent average audience share and a 15.7 percent share among younger viewers in Spain.
To mark the launch of the new season, all four coaches will perform an unreleased song composed specifically for the show by Pablo López. The track will be released on Friday, September 18, coinciding with the launch of the Málaga-born musician's new studio album on the same day.
Broadcast History and Show Format
La Voz is the Spanish version of the international television franchise The Voice, created by Dutch media entrepreneur John de Mol. Antena 3, owned by Spanish media company Atresmedia, broadcasts the series in Friday prime-time slots. Presenter Eva González, a former Miss Spain and established television host, has fronted the program since it moved to the network in 2019.
Secret Fifth Coach and New Battle Rules
The upcoming season introduces several rule changes designed to alter competition dynamics on set. The main addition is a mysterious fifth coach who will appear unexpectedly during the Battles stage. This secret judge will have the authority to rescue eliminated contestants and build a distinct team to compete for the final victory.
The competition will also reinstate one-on-one Battles with an armored steal option using a red card, which grants saved contestants a direct pass to the Live Shows. Meanwhile, the initial Blind Auditions will keep existing mechanisms, including Blocks, Superblocks, the Repentance Button, and surprise auditions known as arrive and sing for candidates who arrive without expecting to perform on stage.
Press Conference and Coach Panel Reactions
During a launch press conference, the coaches showcased their camaraderie ahead of filming. Lola Índigo, who joins the adult edition following her role on La Voz Kids, noted that judging adults required a shift in mindset because performances on the show can define careers and lives. She added that any platform remains valid for demonstrating musical talent.
British singer Mika described discovering Spanish musical culture and passion as a privilege. He joked about local expressions taught to him on set by Lola Índigo, including the traditional phrase malafollá, and confirmed that he would perform a duet with Melendi during the season.
Melendi, who returns to the show after first participating in 2012, acknowledged that he was approaching this season with greater calm and a deeper awareness of his role in supporting contestants. Host Eva González highlighted the collective enthusiasm of the technical and artistic team, stating that their sole purpose was to serve as a megaphone for emerging talent.
