Lefteris Eleftheriou details divorce after 25 years

Greek actor Lefteris Eleftheriou has revealed his decision to divorce his wife after 25 years together during an interview with Hello! magazine journalist Giannis Vitsas.

Eleftheriou explained that the couple spent ten years working with a marriage counselor before deciding to dissolve their marriage, noting that the decision was not taken abruptly. He stated that parents should not seek separation at the first sign of difficulty, calling it a deeply personal choice. He added that leaving a relationship entered into at a young age allows a person to be reborn and re-establish their life on new foundations.

Describing his initial moments after moving into his own home, Eleftheriou recalled that the transition was unbelievably painful. He said his house felt so cold it was as if he were sleeping at the North Pole. He remembered waking up one morning in May feeling as though it were January 10.

Emotional toll of separation

Addressing the duration of his adjustment, Eleftheriou pointed out that the Greek word for separation, chorizo, literally means putting things in their proper spaces. He explained that he struggled to define his personal space and understand how much he still belonged to his former partner and children. Although his eyes confirmed he was alone in a new home, he felt physically, emotionally, and magnetically attached to his family.

Eleftheriou noted that the transition takes between two and a half and three years, adding that he is still navigating the process. He observed that leaving a marriage requires loving the people left behind even more. He highlighted the Greek word for forgiveness, syngchoro, interpreting it as leaving while leaving space alongside oneself for the other person under new terms. He confirmed that he and his ex-wife maintain essential communication, keeping their phones open at all times to support each other.

Reflection on narcissism and past behavior

In a detailed self-criticism, Eleftheriou discussed his past behaviors and character traits that required personal work. He admitted that he had been abusive to friends, in past relationships, and toward himself.

He explained that artists frequently contend with narcissism, which often manifests as a mindset of asking if others know who they are. He said he had to analyze how his own narcissism allowed him to remain humble and put himself in another person's position. Eleftheriou acknowledged that his past charm and popularity previously led him to manipulate and oppress partners, act snobbishly, and treat others poorly.

He added that everyone retains narcissistic elements, but emphasized that personal dignity should be maintained without putting others down to make oneself look better.

Moving forward with a new partner

Eleftheriou confirmed that he has entered a new relationship but is maintaining a low profile for the sake of his teenage children. He explained that his children requested that he keep details of his personal life private rather than seeking publicity in interviews.

Eleftheriou is a prominent Greek actor known for his work in theater, television, and comedy. Hello! is an international celebrity news and lifestyle magazine with a Greek edition.
