At the age of 59, Professor Timothy Welch searched for his biological family and managed to find his mother through a Facebook group
It may not be a common desire, but some adoptees seek to learn more about where they come from and who their biological parents are. For a long time this was not the case. Timothy Welch. The professor who teaches in London lived a very happy life with his parents and was content with his step family.
However, a curiosity about their origin arose after they were lost. I counthis father, who passed away in 2018, followed by Eunicehis mother, in 2020. After running out of adoptive relatives, the man decided to follow his biological family.
“A therapist told me that after people’s adoptive parents die, he often comes back to being curious about where you’re from, because we’re all looking for a connection.”, Timothy reported in an interview with the BBC. In January 2022, your search began.
At the age of 58, the son goes in search of his biological mother
His first lead was a photo he found in Hampshire, England, his hometown. Searching for residents of the county, she found a Facebook group of families born in the English county. When you are asked to enter, the page admin, green pennybecame interested in the story of the teacher.
“As a keen amateur historian, she was very interested and offered to help me trace my biological parents”Timothy recalled. They continued their search at The Haven shelter, run by the Baptist Church.
Penny, who is 62, explains the origin of the shelter. In it, single mothers sought help in having their children. But after the birth, employees took the babies for donation, often forcibly and without the mother’s knowledge. Figuring this might be the case with her, Timothy became interested in the story.
He then went to the Registry General and asked for a copy of his original birth certificate, where he would find his full name, date of birth and the name of his biological mother. With the data, Penny used voter registration to find Timothy’s mother.
The first date
The first contact with the family occurred when the teacher went to visit her Michael Mortimer, her mother’s current husband. With him he comes into contact with his brothers and the family organizes a meeting to get to know each other.

On September 19, 2022, his brothers finally took him to meet his mother. The meeting was emotional, but at the same time it felt natural for Timothy. “We talked about a lot of things, but the part I enjoyed the most was watching her and seeing the person she is.”recalls the professor, happy to finally be able to see his biological family.
In between conversations, Timothy understood more of her story. At the age of 17, his mother had a fleeting romance with Hedayat Mamagan Zardy, an Iranian Muslim. They had two children and the professor was born when their mother was only 18 years old. His brother was also given up for adoption and his mother never found him again. Now, Timothy is looking for the rest of his family.
