“There can be many reasons why students feel ashamed to go to the gym. Whether it’s because it’s their first time in this environment, or because they are ashamed of their bodies, or because they are inexperienced with the activity itself, or because “I’m afraid I’m not being guided well and I might get hurt. The possibilities are endless and every person will have their objection to seeking out this kind of space,” says Thais Ghendov, a registered physical educator at Getninjas.

However, regardless of the reason, shyness shouldn’t be a reason to stop exercising. According to the specialist, it is possible to face the shame and start working out in the gym. See tips below:

1. Get help from a professional

Always look for the professional of the moment you choose to practice. He is better than anyone able to give you all the guidelines for the proposed activity.

2. Clear all your doubts

Don’t accept help from people who aren’t professionals in the industry. Clear all your doubts with your teacher. Look to him whenever you feel like you need to help you with your workout.

3. Wear appropriate clothing

Go in comfortable clothes, suitable for sports practice. Women, for example, can use a more reinforced top to avoid discomfort in the breasts, especially in more intense exercises.

4. Pay attention to footwear

Comfortable athletic shoes will also help you perform better, especially for impact exercises like running and dancing.

5. Do an activity you enjoy

Choose a physical activity that you enjoy doing. For that, take experimental lessons and see which one fits your profile better. This will help you stay focused on your goal.

6. Find a place that suits you

Do a self-assessment and understand where you feel comfortable to engage in physical activity. So, look for a gym where you feel good.

7. Work hard at the gym

Fit the workout into your life as a fixed commitment to your routine. If you prefer, leave everything in writing: put your self-care program on the agenda and implement it.
