The recommendation from the NHS, the British public health service, is that everyone engage in physical activity that increases their heart rate for 150 to 300 minutes each week. This frequency changes for vigorous activity, going from 75 to 150 minutes per week.
The researchers looked at several large previous studies on the benefits of exercise, and came up with the following result: moving the body by half the recommended amount could help prevent one in 20 cases of cardiovascular disease and about one in 20 30 of cancer.
