When applying for a job, many women do not disclose that they are mothers for fear of being overlooked for the position.
Balancing motherhood and career is not an easy task for many mothers. In most cases this occurs, among other things, due to the lack of support within companies, yet another example of inequality between men and women (which is not exclusive to the labor market). For job seekers, the story is generally no different. Therefore, the question remains: should I mention on my resume or LinkedIn profile that I have children?

Karuna Lopes, LinkedIn’s communications manager for Latin America and Iberia, attended one of the Casa Clan panels and spoke to Baby about it. “If you feel free to talk, talk”, he has declared. Nonetheless, he finds it interesting that this information is mentioned, after all, this shouldn’t be a deciding factor in a selection process (although the reality is not always the case). ” The line between what is personal and what is professional has become increasingly blurred, even more so with the pandemic. You can say you have kids, I do the same too. LinkedIn summary is where you tell what really interests you, even outside of work. And children are definitely a part of that,” she commented.
The professional recalled that LinkedIn recently announced a new feature called Career Breaks, which allows users of the platform to advertise career breaks. There are more than 13 options, such as bereavement, career transition, maternity leave, and full-time parenting (having, say, a year devoted to childcare).
“There is an often negative perception of these breakups, but this is increasingly being demystified. One thing we need to remember is that, with these interruptions, professionals end up gaining skills that they would not have if they remained in that same environment. This applies to the maternity hospital, which is a school“, marked.
We hope that companies will be increasingly willing to support working mothers, with the right appreciation of work, suitable environments for breastfeeding and openness to a flexible working day. This is just to name a few examples.
House of the clan
From 8/3 to 3/11 The Clan House took place, sponsored by MSD, BuscoFem, plus the support of Kia, LinkedIn, Intimissimi, Calzedonia and Galderma.
